Guilty Until Proven Innocent by ~hin-chan:iconhin-chan:

                          Guilty Until Proven Innocent
                             The Kevin Levin Story

Bonjour! I’ve recently become quite the aficionado to “Gwevin” existence (though I think Kwen sounds cooler). Anyway. My love of the show (alien force only) and it’s regularity (as oppose to my other favorite AVATAR! ZUTARA ZUTARA), it has been bumped to the top of my “To Fanfic list”. Anyway. I apologize that the plot is oddly familiar. (Cartoon Networks owns all Ben 10 Alien Force paraphernalia and et cetera)
                                            Commence!

Kevin struggled with the energy cuffs on his wrists.
“Wont do you any good! I suggest you get mighty comfortable,” a guard said in sarcastic humor. Kevin shut him up with a glare but heeded his words.

The ship was medium size. There were only three passengers-an older man and a tough looking thug who was even taller than Kevin’s 6’3” stance and just as muscular too. The thug was also in cuffs but they were regular reinforced. The old man was the only one without any cuffing.

“Where are we even going?” Kevin’s blunt tone rang though out the bus. The same guard turned to smirk smugly but it was a skinnier, quieter guard who answered.

“Judgment,” the man said with such a quiet resolution it nearly chilled Kevin himself. The man looked up with a feral smile. The old man prisoner came over to Kevin and sat beside him.

“What do you want?” Kevin glared. The old man gave a little shiver.

“They call it the Null Void; a place where the worst criminals go. But even worse, is the beautiful angel who decides your fate.” He took a dramatic pause before continuing. “The Angel of Death, as she is so well known, is one in a universe. There is none other like her, they say. She is the ultimate truth detector. She can read your soul!” The man leaned in to stare into Kevin’s eyes and he shrunk back in response. Had the man ever brushed his teeth…or what he had left? “She finds out if you’re guilty or not” the man continued, “and if your guilty…she deletes you-permanently! They call it termination.” The guards chuckled in a way that left Kevin uneasy, as if somehow to reaffirm the man’s vivid imagination. The thug behind them voiced his own opinion.

“My buddy came here for some crime. He was innocent, for this one at least” he gave out a low chuckle before turning serious again. “He said she was beautiful, alright, and when she looked into his eyes he felt open. She said he was innocent and he left. Another guy came behind him and he wasn’t as lucky. One second is all it takes. That and a pink flash later; and then the guy was carried out.

“It’s not a good place, not a good place indeed!” The old man nodded solemnly. Kevin was convinced they were both crazy-especially the old man.

“You seem awfully happy about this ‘judgment,’ don’t you think?” Kevin said suspicious.

“That’s cause I’m innocent.” The man said with a grin.

“She’ll determine that.” The bigger guard smirked. Kevin let out a snort.

“You’re all full of it. I’ve been to the Null Void 5 year’s ago-there was nothing there but a bunch of criminals fighting with the guards.” Quiet guard looked at him, a twinkle in his eye.

“You must’ve just missed her.” The rest of the trip was in silence. It was not long before they arrived and were detained into personal cells. Kevin separated from the old man but the thug was still with him. He supposed they were “more dangerous.” On the way to the cell, Kevin looked around. The building was the same. The walls were still the same pale yellow. The bars were still reinforced and ominous. But Kevin doubted it was the Null Void. When he was there five years ago it was more chaotic. Now, he hardly heard a sound. He passed a room with various colors inside and peered at it wordlessly. Where were the in-jail gangs fighting for rights? Where were the guards who egged them on? Where was the little red head who didn’t tell his secret?

They arrived to a cell and Kevin was surprised when they were tossed in together, cuffs off. Kevin gave him a curious look but the guy just shrugged.

“People here know better than to cause a fuss.” The guard sauntered away. Kevin looked at the cell and sighed. Bunk beds-joy.

“Top.” He uttered with conviction. The guy shrugged and went below. That night Kevin dreamt of a memory. It was the last time he was there.

Back then he was young. He was 13 and on record, the youngest to go to the Null Void. He had been working with a guy name Vilgax and they had both ultimately failed in what would’ve been the biggest conning scheme ever to go down in history. They were thwarted by an old man with a green badge.

When he was 13, he had enough power to protect himself from the other inmates so he avoided him and he avoided them. Vilgax, however met every one of them and never missed the chance to demonstrate his ability to charm them into being his minions. He rose to power-leading one of the gangs within the jail. The guards back then were stronger and more heavily armed. It was another thing Kevin had noticed about the present day jail. It was like the thought prisoners could revolt never occurred to them, yet given the history of the jail, that shouldn’t have been the cause. Kevin would know. It was in one of those squabbles that Kevin had escaped.

Vilgax had led his gang against the existing one-the Forever knights. Kevin was unsure who the victor was. All he remembered was that the normal routine was changed. The carefully constructed and carefully monitored schedule had changed because someone was visiting. It was a high ranking official and his grand children. It was just as they arrived that Vilgax and The Forever King led their troops to fight. The guards were in shock and Kevin had found the perfect opportunity to sneak through the air ducts, a plan he was waiting to execute. But before he could open the ducts he felt a pair of eyes on his back. He turned to look into the emerald eyes of the officer’s granddaughter. They were piercing and he felt open for a split second. The girl was his age or younger. She was pretty for her age and he wondered why she was at a high criminal jail. Beside her was her relative of some sort. He was staring at the fighting in awe and watching each swing and kick. But her eyes never left Kevin’s. Awkwardly, he raised a finger to his mouth to indicate his desire for her to be silent. But she kept gazing at him unresponsively. He took it as an ‘ok’ and pulled the vent off. When he put it back on from the inside, she was looking at the fight.

What Kevin did not know, however, was that a pink flash later was all that was needed before the fighting had ceased and the noises had been silenced.

:::::::::::::::::Dies irae, Dies illa::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Kevin was awakened by the sound of metal grinding on his senses. He did not wince visibly.

“Judgment day” the new guard said with a feral grin, as if excited for the verdict that would come. Kevin hopped down and noticed the bottom bunk empty. “Guilty” the man said with another inhumane smile. Kevin followed him wearily.

He was led to another hall way then the one before. It was painted blue and was less faded then the rest. He reasoned it was fairly recent. He heard a shriek of joy as a man ran past him. He vaguely recognized him as he ran by, but the old man stopped to slap him on the back, jogging Kevin’s memory.

“I’m innocent! Good luck m’boy. She’s a pretty thang, though!” He skipped away without a patrol guard but Kevin just shuffled down the hallway silently.

Somewhere along a curve in the hallway, they met a door. It merely said Gwen in cursive script. The guard opened it and Kevin saw a big chair in the middle or the room. It was similar to the dentists’ office even in that, the doctor wasn’t there. He laid back and felt a seizure of panic when he found his body being tied down by the guard. The guard muttered something about “just in case.” Then the man left and Kevin was forced to gaze around. It was filled with a playful attitude that put him on edge. It looked like he was going to have a play date not be trialed for murder. Another door in the back of the room made a noise and he peered to look. A young red-headed woman walked in. For once, Kevin was perfectly content with being wrong, and now was one of them. He watched as the doctor rumple her lab jacket. It was a size too big and Kevin noticed her lab sleeves rolled up twice. Beneath the white cocoon were a blue blouse and a tighter black skirt. She had yet to notice Kevin directly but began reading parts of his file aloud.

“You are charged with theft, robbery, and murder of a high ranking officer. Do you admit to being a guilty party?” Her eyes rose from the paper to glance at him and he noticed her freeze, her mouth opening slightly in a silent ‘oh’. Kevin noticed her emerald eyes and was immediately reminded of the sharp green ones of his childhood in the jail. He looked over her once more and was pleased with her development. She had grown to be even more beautiful then he thought possible. She was fit and slightly muscular. He wondered if she had special training to detain criminals but he disregarded the notion. She was too petite; it seemed, to even detain the old man who hobbled out before. Kevin mooned at her for a little while longer before she made a slight coughing noise. He turned his attention back to her.

“Do you admit to the crimes you are charged with?” Her eyes suddenly had turned frosty and cold, as if remembering why he was there.

“I didn’t kill nobody.” He said with a slight annoyance. How many times did he have to say he didn’t kill the stupid officer? He was merely using his old motor home to fetch a good price in the weapons department.

“Mmhmm.” She murmured unconvinced. She sighed before bringing the chair upright. “Let’s take a look then.” Kevin began to struggle a little, unnerved with whatever she was doing. She stared into his eyes before placing her soft, small hands on to his face. He calmed immediately and met her gaze.

It was her; he realized when she gave the same unresponsive gaze as 5 years ago. He peered into the endless emerald and wondered why she was still in the jail. What was she? 18 years old like he was? Doomed to live in this jail with criminals all her life? Her pupils, once dilated, came back into focus and her mouth fell back in shock again.

“Impossible…I…I…” she ceased her thought before closing her eyes. Her hands were still on his face and he watched as her brow creased. She opened them again and he noticed the slight moisture creeping in from the corner of her eyes. She fazed out again and he was left staring at the moisture willing it to go away. But it did not and when she came to it came back with a vengeance and Kevin felt a pull in his heart when the beautiful angel let loose tears of anguish. What had he done? She removed her hands and he immediately missed the warmth. She pushed her rolling chair back a bit and peered at her hands. “Impossible…I…can’t…never before!” Kevin smirked before struggling against the bonds again.

“Well then in that case, angel, I’ll take my leave…” He struggled a little harder but she stood in a bit of fury.

“Oh no, you don’t! You’re not leaving like last time! I can’t decide if you’re guilty or not!” She had reconfirmed his belief but he still looked at her confused. That gazing look had been when she was trying to read him. She had read him last time and had let him get away, because last time he was innocent. Well…sort of. The angel left his side and pressed a small red button next to a speaker.

“Yeah, Gwen?” A boy’s voice carried through to her.

“Ben…I have a problem.”

CAN I EDIT?

(Don't worry, I haven't read it yet, so I'm not saying your grammar is horrible or anything. I'm just REALLY bored, and editing it would give me something to do.)

I'll leave my comments after I read it in a reply to this.
